Donation OpportunitiesAnnual FundThe CMU Annual Fund provides for the essential, but easy to overlook, needs of the university: Heat, light, water, maintenance, equipment and the salaries of faculty and staff. It's everything from the cheery "Hello!" you hear from the receptionist when you call the university, to the professor teaching a course, to the people who recruit students or raise funds or to repairing the school's vans so the basketball team can get to its next game. It's vital, in other words, and so is your support to this all-purpose Fund. Menno Simons CollegeMenno Simons College is CMU's campus at the University of Winnipeg. It provides education in the areas of international development and conflict resolution that flows from Anabaptist-Mennonite understandings of faith, peace and justice. MSC's goal is to foster a learning community that prepares students from diverse backgrounds for participation and leadership in local and global communities. Total needed: $ OuttatownOuttatown is CMU's eight-month discipleship and adventure school. Students, along with their site leaders, study, serve and travel throughout western Canada in first semester and either Guatemala or South Africa in second semester. The goal of Outtatown is to inspire and nurture students in their life of discipleship with Jesus Christ by helping them to know God, know themselves and know the world. Total needed: $ Science LabA 1200sq ft. Science Laboratory is currently under construction. This will enable CMU to expand its offering of lab-supported courses in biology and chemistry. Increasingly, CMU students want to build an academic base in the sciences as they prepare to move into professional fields of study such as nursing, agriculture, medicine, pharmacy, engineering, and education. With significant support from provincial and federal governments, and early lead gifts, CMU seeks to raise $150,000 to complete this project. Total needed: $ Student LifeThe goal of the Student Life Department is to provide a safe, secure and hospitable environment where students can succeed academically, grow and mature as individuals and grow in their faith. They do this through services such as residence assistance, academic & career advising, chapels, forums, social events and counselling, along with providing leadership training and opportunities so that students can test their skills and abilities and provide leadership on campus through Student Council, as heads of committees, and in residence and commuter life. Total needed: $ LibraryThe library is the heart of any university. The CMU library contains more than 100,000 items—books, CDs, periodicals, commentaries and journals. In addition, members of the community are also invited to use the library.
AthleticsThe goal of CMU’s Athletic Program is to provide students with opportunities for physical, social, emotional, mental and spiritual development through sport. Student athletes are encouraged to integrate Christian faith with learning, personal growth and development—both on and off the field of play. Total needed: $ School of MusicWith its excellent professors, low student to instructor ratio, great facilities, wide diversity of offerings, numerous ensembles and plenty of opportunities for solo and ensemble performances, the School of Music at CMU is one of the best places for students to get a great music education—an education that can prepare them for careers as educators, in music performance, music therapy, music ministry and music administration.
Student PracticaEach year over 100 students do a practicum assignment as part of their graduation requirements at CMU Shaftesbury and Menno Simons College campuses. They serve in the developing world with relief groups, with mission agencies, in Winnipeg’s inner city, with troubled youth, in hospitals and senior citizen residences, and in many other ways. These practicum assignments are a great way for students to test their career interests, get practical experience and develop contacts that may lead to employment. Campus FacilitiesVisitors to CMU often remark about how clean and well-kept the campus looks. This may seem like a small thing, but it’s very important—first impressions matter! Keeping the campus clean and kept is the task of CMU’s expert and capable maintenance staff: Walter, Hildegard, Peter and Larry. They keep the facilities looking great while maintaining a Scent-free Environment, out of respect and concern for those suffer from scent allergies. ScholarshipsEach year CMU gives out almost $250,000 in scholarships. Over $100,000 of that amount comes out of the Annual Fund—from donations from people like you. These scholarships are an important aspect of life at CMU; they make it possible for students to acquire the education and skills they need to study at the university, so they can go on to be of service to church and society. About 200 students receive a scholarship each year; they range from $500 to $1,000 each. Total needed: $ Hot Pursuit 2010Sponsor Team CMU as they challenge Arvid Loewen on a 2,400 km cycling pursuit race from Vancouver to Winnipeg. Proceeds from this event will help international students to study at CMU through bursaries and scholarships and assist students with their international practicum placements in developing countries. |
