The study of history enables students to understand the movements, the people, places and events that shape the world in which we live. With a clear understanding of what we—as a nation, a community, or a world—have passed through, we can learn from what has already happened, and make the best decisions possible.
History is exciting—consider being the first person in decades to look through an old archive, or diary, and using your imagination to dream up what someone’s life would have been like.
History develops one’s analytical, research, writing and organizational skills. CMU history grads are involved in a variety of career pursuits—everything from archival work to teaching to law school.
