CMU is a pioneer in the study of international development, and our program has a number of advantages that make it a strong and competitive choice for students wanting to begin an international development career.
CMU professors have worked on aid projects in Africa, Asia and Latin America. They have experience working with the Canadian government, with faith-based NGOs, and in grassroots organizations.
They have experience in aid policy, community development, as well as advocacy and policy work within Canada.
Their wealth of practical experience is what brings IDS classes to life, and their passion for working in poverty relief and development comes through in their teachings.
Students are encouraged to explore the implications of doing development work from a faith-based perspective, and the challenges and opportunities that go with it.
CMU’s on-the-ground work experience (practicum) program ensures students graduate with practical job experience, and gives them a lunching point for future careers.
Students complete practicum placements with communities and organizations around the world, including in Kenya, Egypt, Pakistan, Bolivia and South Africa.
For students interested in pursuing graduate level studies, CMU offers an option for completing a 4-year Honours thesis in preparation for further studies.
