Social Sciences: Intercultural Studies

What Will I Study?

Culture embeds itself in an enormous variety of places—our histories, our narratives of those histories, our social constructs, our modes of worship, our manners of communicating, conducting conflict, healing and making peace. Therefore, in order to make a thorough and well-rounded study of the role of cultures in societies, we must examine culture in as many contexts and from as many vantage points as possible.

The following are just a few examples of courses offered at CMU within the Intercultural Studies concentration:

  • Introduction to Human Geography
  • Interpersonal Communication
  • Inter-cultural Theory and Practice
  • History of Colonial Canada
  • Religion and Conflict in Historical Perspective
  • Participatory Local Development
  • Crisis, Humanitarian Aid, and Disaster Recovery
  • Cultural Perspectives on Global Processes
  • Restorative Justice
  • Conflict and the Construction of the Other
  • Human Rights and Dignity
  • Biblical Interpretation Across Cultures
