Music Therapy

Why Major in Music Therapy?

How can music-based interventions improve Alzheimer's patients' functioning and quality of life? Can singing really help somebody relearn to speak, after an accident? Could music be a viable alternative or compliment to drugs or other types of therapy in treating mood disorders? How can music support development in children? If any of these questions interest you, and if you're passionate about helping people and playing music, consider enrolling in CMU's music therapy program.

Music therapy is the skillful and systematic use of music to assist individuals from all walks of life in promoting, maintaining, and restoring health. Music therapists are trained to assess each individual's abilities through music. Music therapy sessions are, therefore, designed to meet the needs of each person in individual or group settings. Through studies at CMU, students gain skills and techniques that are valuable in careers in the care professions. Email myaciuk:@:cmu.ca for more information about the Music Therapy program.
