Out-Reach Report: CMU Women's Basketball
The CMU Women's Basketball team met at Churchill High School where they put on a basketball skills clinic for junior high girls. The young inner city athletes were treated to one on one coaching from the Blazers who demonstrated patience and caring. It was hard at times to tell who was having more fun but all agreed the time flew by much too quickly. There were a number of related games as well as drills to improve skills and Coach Al provided some homemade cookies when we finally said goodbye. The Blazers were outstanding role models of women in athletics and true ambassadors for their school and their God. The Blazers did not look sharp against the Lady Thunderbirds in the early going missing several layups and defensive assignments. As a result, United Tribes outscored CMU 37 to 19 by the end of the first half of play.
The second frame proved to be more entertaining as the Blazers refused to quit. With 3 minute to go CMU was down by 8 and pressing. The T-birds stalled and waited patiently for the Blazers to take some chances. The strategy was successful and United Tribes went on to win 65 to 54. Team captain, Janelle Hume, led the Blazers with 12 points, 7 assists, 4 steals, and 2 blocked shots. Brooke Semchuk had 9 points and 3 steals while Carmen Wiebe had 8 points and 5 assists. Nina Schroeder scored 7 points and grabbed 7 rebounds for the Blazers. Date November 15th

The second frame was almost a carbon copy of the first with CMU using a solid man to man press which gave the Lions trouble. The game ended 63 to 43 for CMU.
