The CMU athletic community gathered on March 19th to honor the individual and team achievements of the past year. In 2009-2010, the CMU Blazers won championships in Women’s Soccer, Women’s Volleyball and Women’s Basketball, and played in the conference finals in Men’s Soccer, Men’s Hockey and Men’s Basketball. Fifth-year basketball player Christie Anne McCullough was recognized as Most Valuable Player of the women’s basketball team as well as the Female Athlete of the Year. The point-guard from Outlook, Saskatchewan will graduate in April with a degree in History. On the men’s side, fourth-year basketball player Paul Muns received recognition as MVP of the men’s basketball team and the Male Athlete of the Year. Muns was the MCAC’s leading scorer and will graduate in 2010 with a degree in Pre-Med. McCullough, Muns and 57 other CMU student-athletes received awards for academic achievement as Scholar Athletes, earning a grade point average of 3.0 or higher.
Men’s hockey player Ethan Heidebrecht led the MCAC in scoring in his first season and received recognition as CMU Male Rookie of the Year. The female rookie of the year was Anneke Hildebrand of the women’s basketball team.
