New Director Appointed for CMU Braintree Creation Care Centre

Harvey Sawatzky has been appointed Director of the CMU Braintree Creation Care Centre. Sawatzky, a former high school teacher and long-time community environmental leader and outdoor education teacher, will begin his new half-time position on November 17th.

In addition to leading the development of a number of initiatives at the Centre in East Braintree, Sawatzky will work with Glen Klassen, the Centre’s Research Director, to create a Research Station dedicated to the study of the great peat bogs of southeastern Manitoba, as well to studying the flora and fauna of the area.

He will also work with Braintree hosts and caretakers Will and Alvie Martens to facilitate spiritual retreats for small groups or individuals at the Centre.

Sawatzky holds a Master of Natural Resource Management degree from the Natural Resource Institute at the University of Manitoba, and is currently employed as an environmental consultant with a private company. He and his wife, Vivian, attend the Fort Garry Evangelical Mennonite Church, where they were recently commissioned to serve as deacons.
