MSC GRADUATE WINS WOMAN OF DISTINCTION AWARD

Menno Simons College graduate Nöelle DePape has been named a Woman of Distinction by the YMCA/YWCA in Winnipeg.

DePape, who graduated with a Bachelor of Arts in Conflict Resolution at Menno Simons College (MSC) in 2003, was one of 10 women awarded Women of Distinction honours on May 6. She was honoured in the Business and Professions category.

“Nöelle is a wonderful example of the difference our graduates can make,” says Paul Redekop, Dean of MSC.

DePape, who also holds an Advanced Masters degree in International Peace and Conflict Resolution from the University of Queensland, Australia, is executive director of the Immigrant and Refugee Community Organization of Manitoba (IRCOM).

She has worked in community mobilization, capacity building and youth programming with the Canadian Red Cross, UNICEF, Brisbane City Council and in a Palestinian refugee camp with the Canadian International Development Agency.

“We’re so pleased that Nöelle’s work towards peace and justice, both here in Winnipeg and in conflict hotspots around the world, has been honoured in this way,” says Ruth Taronno, Associate Vice President of MSC.

The annual YMCA-YWCA Women of Distinction Awards honour Winnipeg women who have made a unique and exemplary contribution to the development of others in our community.
