MANITOBA NORTHWESTERN ONTARIO SYNOD
Evangelical Lutheran Church in Canada
seeks a
Young Adult Ministry Facilitator
It has been documented that today’s young adults (18-35) reflect a lifestyle of “collecting experiences”
rather than “collecting stuff” as the baby boom generation did before them. It is the desire of this synod that
one of those “experiences” might include building a relationship with a faith community, the body of
Christ.
Building upon our experience in the MNO Synod of intentional outreach, nurture and leadership
development with youth in the church through a part time staff position, it is our desire to create the same
for young adult ministry, as a way to strengthen this ministry in our synod and the church.
TERM OF EMPLOYMENT: half time for a three year term, renewable, open to both
lay or rostered persons.
RESPONSIBLE TO: Synod Bishop
APPLICATION DEADLINE: November 25, 2010
Please direct all ELCIC/ELCA mobility papers or your resumes to:
Rev. Larry Ulrich, Assistant to the Bishop

University/Young Adult Pastor
The role of the University/Young Adult Pastor is to develop an outreach arm of Fort Garry EMC / EM Conference at the University of Manitoba south campus and to provide for the spiritual care of the young adults in the congregation.
Specific Duties
This is a new and evolving position. It is expected that the duties will change as the pastor develops progressive phases of this work. On-going duties will be:
Ongoing at FGEMC:
• To provide the young adults in the congregation with pastoral care.
• To facilitate the planning of programming for young adults.
Phase I at University (6-12 months)
• Become acquainted with the University south campus.
• Get to know the other Christian groups that are working on campus. Establish collegial relationships with the key people in these groups.
• Identify opportunities for FG EMC to be a welcoming church for students.
• Identify the group (or groups) of students that are most neglected in terms of support and care. Initial research by a FG EMC task force has indicated that this will likely be graduate (and older students) and international students. These could be overlapping groups.
• Find places and opportunities to volunteer at the University to get to know students and understand their needs.
• Provide support to Christian students (including EMC expatriates) on campus and empower them to reach out to other students.
Phase II at University
• Development of programming will become a more integral part of the position. Specifics will be developed in consultation with a support group.
• Except as they enhance young adult ministry, general pastoral duties like preaching, leading worship, and pastoral care will not be expected.
For more information, please contact Fort Garry EMC church.
