Major in Social Sciences within a Bachelor of Arts
The Social Science major is an interdisciplinary major that allows students to access the broad vistas of the Social Sciences. Focusing especially on CMU’s strengths in History, International Development Studies, Peace & Conflict Transformation Studies, and Psychology, this degree provides a distinctive opportunity for cross-discipline study. Students develop the ability to critically analyze material and synthesize it into broad interdisciplinary perspectives on a variety of topics including justice, responsible citizenship, and multicultural understanding.  Students may choose to focus on one of the formal concentrations (see Programs link on sidebar to view the concentrations in Counselling, Disaster Recover, Intercultural or Social Service) or they may choose to create their own concentration by blending courses in a manner that focuses on their own interests.

Why major in Social Science at CMU?
This program of study, delivered entirely at the CMU Shaftesbury campus, allows students to take CMU’s various offerings in the Social Sciences – Disaster Recovery Studies, Economics, Geography, History, International Development Studies, Peace & Conflict Transformation Studies, Political Studies, Psychology and Sociology – and create a truly interdisciplinary degree. Studies in Social Sciences complement the worldview and integrative opportunities afforded by CMU’s faculty in Biblical and Theological Studies and Philosophy.
