Choosing Your Courses

For your first year at CMU you may choose courses freely according to your interests or to fit the program of study you expect you will pursue. However, there are a few requirements you must meet.

Within your first eighteen credit hours you must register for

  1. at least three credit hours of Biblical and Theological Studies
  2. at least three credit hours of Humanities, Science, or Social Science
Within your first thirty credit hours, you must register for

  1. at least six credit hours of Biblical and Theological Studies (BTS-1110, and one of: BTS-2000, BTS-2550, or BTS-2720)
  2. at least twelve credit hours from Humanities, Science, or Social Science
  3. The Academic Writing Lab (ACWR-0900)

A good strategy for your first year is to choose courses in a range of subject fields.

Within your the second thirty credit hours, you must register for

  1. at least six credit hours of Biblical and Theological Studies or Integrative Studies (making a total of twelve credit hours drawn from these areas within the first sixty credit hours)
  2. twelve credit hours from Humanities, Science, Social Science, or Practicum (making a total of twenty-four credit hours drawn from these areas within the first sixty hours)
Students may use transfer credit to meet these requirements. These registration requirements for the first and second years apply to all students, except students visiting from other universities.
