As CMU’s first Director of Practica, Werner has enjoyed the privilege of being involved with the practicum program from the ground up.  It’s been his privilege to work with both students and host agencies world-wide in connecting students to practicum placements that complement their on-campus studies.

The relevant pedagogical catch-phrase in practicum thinking is experience-based learning.  The best practicum placements are those where a meaningful set of experiences (a placement) has been arranged and where the student then takes advantage of the possibilities offered by such a placement to learn much from it.  Administering the program, hearing of learning experiences that are significant in students’ lives, and hearing appreciation from practicum hosts, and three enjoyable parts of Werner’s work.

Werner completed undergraduate degrees at Canadian Mennonite Bible College and the University of Manitoba, and a Master of Divinity degree at Associated Mennonite Biblical Seminary.  Before coming to CMU, he taught at Swift Current Bible Institute.

Werner and his wife, Marilyn, have four adult children and three daughters-in-law, and thoroughly enjoy their growing number of grandchildren.  They are members of Charleswood Mennonite Church.
