{"id":2105,"date":"2011-11-22T12:57:03","date_gmt":"2011-11-22T18:57:03","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.cmu.ca\/media_archive\/?p=2105"},"modified":"2011-11-22T18:01:19","modified_gmt":"2011-11-23T00:01:19","slug":"student-profile-frances-paletta","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.cmu.ca\/media_archive\/2011\/student-profile-frances-paletta\/","title":{"rendered":"Student Profiles &#8211; Frances Paletta"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Mature student Frances Paletta came to CMU in 2005 to study Peace and Conflict Transformation Studies (PACTS), years after having attended Red River Community College, where she graduated, and The University of Winnipeg, after establishing herself as a successful businesswoman in the hospitality industry.<\/p>\n<p>Paletta says she had put aside her aspirations of completing another degree when the family business workload became too demanding. Then, in 2004, the family sold one of the businesses in which she was heavily involved. \u201cThis afforded me the opportunity to enroll in CMU\u2019s PACTS program,\u201d says Paletta. \u201cMy desire was \u2013 and still is \u2013 to play a greater role in service within the church and broader community.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>She studied part time to maintain an active administrative role in the family business, serving as secretary-treasurer since January 2011, and to manage her mother\u2019s homecare. Paletta has completed her PACTS coursework and hopes to finish her practicum and graduate in 2012.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cCMU has provided me with tools to promote peaceful ways of communication that include respect, justice, and mercy, and has helped me solidify my commitment to ways of peace,\u201d Paletta shares. \u201cI\u2019ve also been given a fresh way to look at conflict. Now I see conflict as an opportunity for overcoming, for growth, and for well-being.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe program has been instrumental both in how I live my life and how I carry out my business affairs,\u201d she continues. \u201cI already use the tools I\u2019ve learned very actively in my current position.
