{"id":3299,"date":"2012-12-13T15:38:18","date_gmt":"2012-12-13T21:38:18","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.cmu.ca\/media_archive\/?p=3299"},"modified":"2012-12-13T16:00:07","modified_gmt":"2012-12-13T22:00:07","slug":"student-profiles-kathleen-mccullough","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.cmu.ca\/media_archive\/2012\/student-profiles-kathleen-mccullough\/","title":{"rendered":"Student Profiles &#8211; Kathleen McCullough"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>December 13, 2012 &#8211; A love of basketball brought CMU student and athlete Kathleen McCullough to CMU &#8211; and it\u2019s what continues to motivate and challenge this student who is in \u00a0her third year both at the school and on the team.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cOur team is like an extended family to me,\u201d says McCullough, who is working towards her Bachelor of Arts <a href=\"http:\/\/www.cmu.ca\/media_archive\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/12\/Kathleen-McCullough_40KB.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignright size-medium wp-image-3300\" alt=\"Kathleen McCullough_40KB\" src=\"http:\/\/www.cmu.ca\/media_archive\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/12\/Kathleen-McCullough_40KB-300x200.jpg\" width=\"300\" height=\"200\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.cmu.ca\/media_archive\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/12\/Kathleen-McCullough_40KB-300x200.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.cmu.ca\/media_archive\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/12\/Kathleen-McCullough_40KB.jpg 576w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a>degree in Social Sciences and Counselling. \u201cAs the year progresses, each player develops, both personally and in our athletic ability. My coach really puts the players first and has helped push me to my optimal performance.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Kathleen started out with less than a full course load, but quickly learned to balance life as a full-time student with her basketball career. \u201cI believe anybody can balance academics and athletics here &#8211;\u00a0and succeed in both.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>CMU athletes are supported by the entire community, cheering on their teams through wins and even through losses. \u201cThe fans here never stop cheering,\u201d says Kathleen. \u201cIt doesn\u2019t matter which sport is happening, there will always be fans coming out to support their team. That support keeps a team going through tough competition and it\u2019s something I look forward to every basketball season.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><i>CMU athletes consistently perform well in the league\u2019s scholar-athlete rankings, with nine student-athletes in 2012 achieving grade-point averages (GSPs) of 4.0 and up.
