{"id":3567,"date":"2013-04-05T10:29:10","date_gmt":"2013-04-05T15:29:10","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.cmu.ca\/media_archive\/?p=3567"},"modified":"2013-04-29T10:02:58","modified_gmt":"2013-04-29T15:02:58","slug":"cmu-professor-releases-book-on-true-and-false-prophecy-in-the-old-testament","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.cmu.ca\/media_archive\/2013\/cmu-professor-releases-book-on-true-and-false-prophecy-in-the-old-testament\/","title":{"rendered":"CMU Professor Releases Book on True and False Prophecy in the Old Testament"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Winnipeg, April 5, 2013\u00a0\u2013\u00a0CMU faculty member Dan Epp-Tiessen has released his book, <i>Concerning the Prophets: True and False Prophecy in Jeremiah 23:9-29:32<\/i> (Pickwick Publications), which \u201csheds light on the compositional history, structure, and theology of the book of Jeremiah by demonstrating that a large concentric unit of material focusing on true and false prophecy stands at the center of the book.\u201d<a href=\"http:\/\/www.cmu.ca\/media_archive\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/04\/danet_concerningtheprophets.jpg\"><br \/>\n<\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u201cIn a nutshell, false prophecy overlooks community sin, encourages complacency, prevents repentance, and leads to utter catastrophe,\u201d says author Epp-Tiessen, Associate Professor of Bible at CMU. \u201cTrue prophecy diagnoses the sins of the community, calls for repentance, and asserts that health and healing can only result from following God\u2019s way of life.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.cmu.ca\/media_archive\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/04\/danet_concerningtheprophets.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignright size-medium wp-image-3568\" alt=\"danet_concerningtheprophets\" src=\"http:\/\/www.cmu.ca\/media_archive\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/04\/danet_concerningtheprophets-232x300.jpg\" width=\"232\" height=\"300\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.cmu.ca\/media_archive\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/04\/danet_concerningtheprophets-232x300.jpg 232w, https:\/\/www.cmu.ca\/media_archive\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/04\/danet_concerningtheprophets.jpg 696w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 232px) 100vw, 232px\" \/><\/a>Epp-Tiessen, who holds a Ph.D. in Old Testament from the University of St. Michael\u2019s College (1994), has authored numerous articles, book reviews, curricula, and study guides, including <i>Faith and Hope in the Midst of Changing Times<\/i>, a five-week worship, prayer, and study guide commissioned by Mennonite Church Canada (2010). He has been teaching at CMU\/CMBC since 1998.<\/p>\n<p>Louis Stulman, Ph.D., of the University of Findlay praises\u00a0as \u201cintelligent, bold, and replete with exegetical insight. It will no doubt enrich all those interested in prophetic literature and the tortuous question of true and false prophecy.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The fall 2012 release of <i>Concerning the Prophets<\/i> adds to CMU\u2019s impressive body of works published since early 2012, which includes nine books, 13 book chapters, and 23 journal articles from a 45-member faculty.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cScholarship lies at the very heart of CMU,\u201d said Earl Davey, CMU\u2019s Vice-President, Academic at the December 2012 book launch event. \u201cI am confident to say we do well at forging an authentic and vital interface between scholarship and the teaching and mentoring process.
