Witnessing the atrocities of armed conflict during the Cenepa War, a 1995 border dispute between Ecuador and Peru, caused Caceres to reevaluate what he wanted to do with his life.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_4284\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-4284\" style=\"width: 300px\" class=\"wp-caption alignright\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.cmu.ca\/media_archive\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/02\/2013-07-04-David-Caceres-profile-12-copy.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-4284\" alt=\"David Caceres\" src=\"http:\/\/www.cmu.ca\/media_archive\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/02\/2013-07-04-David-Caceres-profile-12-copy-300x211.jpg\" width=\"300\" height=\"211\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.cmu.ca\/media_archive\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/02\/2013-07-04-David-Caceres-profile-12-copy-300x211.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.cmu.ca\/media_archive\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/02\/2013-07-04-David-Caceres-profile-12-copy-1024x722.jpg 1024w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-4284\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">David Caceres<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>\u201cWar is something that no one should live,\u201d says Caceres, who was in Winnipeg June 17-28, 2013 to study at Canadian Mennonite University\u2019s (CMU) <a href=\"http:\/\/csop.cmu.ca\/\" target=\"_blank\">Canadian School of Peacebuilding (CSOP)<\/a>. \u201cWe should have to respect everyone\u2019s life.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>After the Cenepa War, Caceres began working for the Peruvian army in a peacekeeping capacity. That led to a job at the United Nations, where Caceres worked for four years as a training officer. In that role, he developed military training materials for the UN\u2019s Department of Peacekeeping Operations.<\/p>\n<p>With a wide range of experiences in managing human resources, mediation, and conflict resolution at the international level, Caceres has facilitated seminars, workshops, courses, and training in Africa, Europe, Asia, America, and Latin America.<\/p>\n<p>Caceres is currently the Lima District Manager for World Mediation Organization, where he consults and trains people in mediation and conflict resolution.<\/p>\n<p>He is also in the process of developing the\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/ciepp.org\/index.php\/en\/\">International Peace Studies Center of Peru<\/a>\u00a0 that will help enhance the capabilities of communities and government workers to deal with conflicts in Peru so that they can resolve them peacefully.<\/p>\n<p>He studied at the CSOP in June because he wants to expand his knowledge of conflict resolution.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIf you feel like being a cook, you need to have a lot of recipes,\u201d Caceres says, adding that the CSOP instructors he learned from have given him a variety of different recipes for, or ways to approach, resolving conflicts.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI\u2019m putting everything in my bag and I believe I\u2019ll use the knowledge and experiences and relationships [I made at the CSOP] so that I can do my job \u2026 in the best way.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>[youtube]http:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=r7snGnAN42A[\/youtube]<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>by Aaron Epp \u2018War is something that no one should live,\u2019 says retired Peruvian colonel.
