{"id":4715,"date":"2014-11-12T12:43:40","date_gmt":"2014-11-12T18:43:40","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.cmu.ca\/media_archive\/?p=4715"},"modified":"2014-12-03T13:05:43","modified_gmt":"2014-12-03T19:05:43","slug":"student-profile-nonsikelelo-nonsi-sibanda-201415","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.cmu.ca\/media_archive\/2014\/student-profile-nonsikelelo-nonsi-sibanda-201415\/","title":{"rendered":"Student Profile &#8211; Nonsikelelo \u201cNonsi\u201d Sibanda"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Nonsikelelo \u201cNonsi\u201d Sibanda, the new president of the Redekop School of Business Students Association (RSBSA), is passionate about the ways Christian values and business practice can intersect.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cBusiness and Christian values go together,\u201d she says. \u201cChristian ethics are so valuable when running a business.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.cmu.ca\/business.php\" target=\"_blank\">The Redekop School of Business<\/a> is developing the potential of future business leaders to bring together sound business practice with commitments of faith, generosity, and service. When friends nominated her for the role of president, she felt it would be a good experience.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI\u2019m a business student and some day I might have to lead, so why not start now?\u201d she says.<\/p>\n<p>The role of the RSBSA is to provide opportunities for students to gain knowledge and experience outside of the classroom, says Sibanda. Events feature guest speakers from the business community and workshops to develop skills needed for pursuing a career in business.<\/p>\n<p>Sibanda says the events allow students \u201cto ask somebody from the business world \u2018how do I do this?\u2019 or \u2018what do I do if I\u2019m interested in this?\u2019\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Initially, Sibanda thought she\u2019d like to work as a Chartered Accountant after graduating. She says that while that would be a challenging career, she\u2019d like to be a social entrepreneur and create her own business.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAccounting is one essential part of a business,\u201d she says. \u201cIf I have my own business, it\u2019ll be very helpful one day.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Sibanda is grateful for the \u201cmany benefits and opportunities\u201d RSB affords. She was a participant in the 2014 RSB study tour to Europe, which she describes as a great trip.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAs a person who\u2019s doing accounting and interested in numbers, how other countries do economic and financial stuff was interesting for me.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Sibanda says she\u2019s been good at working with numbers since high school, where she took advanced classes in accounting and business.<\/p>\n<p>She came to Canada from Zimbabwe in 2011 to study at CMU.
