McAllister Endowed Chair and Director of the Program for Community, Culture, and Environment at Northern Arizona University.\u00a0After teaching political theory for twenty years at Duke University, driven by\u00a0Adorno&#8217;s claim that\u00a0&#8216;to want utopia is to want substance in cognition&#8217;,\u00a0Coles ventured to\u00a0NAU in a last-ditch\u00a0effort to learn how to think in relation to many of the specific challenges,\u00a0opportunities, and peoples\u00a0in his new home on the Colorado Plateau.\u00a0He is the author of many books and articles at the intersection of political theory, philosophy, theology, and political practice.\u00a0 Among his works are, Self\/Power\/Other:\u00a0 Political Theory and Dialogical Ethics;\u00a0 Rethinking Generosity:\u00a0 Critical Theory and the Politics of Caritas;\u00a0 Beyond Gated Politics:\u00a0 Reflections for the Possibility of Democracy; and (with Stanley Hauerwas) Christianity, Democracy, and the Radical Ordinary:\u00a0 Conversations between a Radical Democrat and a Christian.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Winter Lectures Series January 25-26, 2011 Resonance, Receptivity and Radical Reformation Guest Lecturer: Dr. Romand Coles, McAllister Chair in Community, Culture, &amp; Environment at Northern Arizona University.
