{"id":6671,"date":"2017-10-12T11:27:30","date_gmt":"2017-10-12T16:27:30","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.cmu.ca\/media_archive\/?p=6671"},"modified":"2017-11-03T11:35:02","modified_gmt":"2017-11-03T16:35:02","slug":"2017-cmu-distinguished-alumni-story-ken-esau-video","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.cmu.ca\/media_archive\/2017\/2017-cmu-distinguished-alumni-story-ken-esau-video\/","title":{"rendered":"2017 CMU Distinguished Alumni Story | Ken Esau (video)"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/Xw79Br9Tcmk\" width=\"560\" height=\"315\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen=\"allowfullscreen\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>Born and raised in Coaldale, AB, Ken Esau was planning to become an engineer before studying at MBBC led him in the direction of becoming a teacher.<\/p>\n<p>Since 1991, Esau has been part of the Biblical Studies faculty at Columbia Bible College in Abbotsford, BC.<\/p>\n<p>At CBC, Esau has taught Marriage &amp; Family, Introduction to Psychology, Modern Western History, World Religions, and courses looking specifically at a number of Old Testament books.<\/p>\n<p>It\u2019s his Old Testament survey course, however, that he says has most defined him. Esau has taught the course 90 times.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_6675\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-6675\" style=\"width: 250px\" class=\"wp-caption alignright\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"wp-image-6675\" src=\"http:\/\/www.cmu.ca\/media_archive\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/11\/New.AlumniAwards.03.Esau_.K-300x300.jpg\" alt=\"Ken Esau\" width=\"250\" height=\"250\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.cmu.ca\/media_archive\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/11\/New.AlumniAwards.03.Esau_.K-300x300.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.cmu.ca\/media_archive\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/11\/New.AlumniAwards.03.Esau_.K-150x150.jpg 150w, https:\/\/www.cmu.ca\/media_archive\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/11\/New.AlumniAwards.03.Esau_.K-768x768.jpg 768w, https:\/\/www.cmu.ca\/media_archive\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/11\/New.AlumniAwards.03.Esau_.K-1024x1024.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/www.cmu.ca\/media_archive\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/11\/New.AlumniAwards.03.Esau_.K.jpg 1243w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 250px) 100vw, 250px\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-6675\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Ken Esau, 2017 CMU Distinguished Alumni Award recipient<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>Formerly a high school teacher, Esau holds undergraduate degrees from the University of Winnipeg and the University of Lethbridge, as well as graduate degrees from the Mennonite Brethren Biblical Seminary in Fresno, CA and Regent College in Vancouver, BC.<\/p>\n<p>Esau is committed to Jesus, Jesus\u2019 church, and the Kingdom mission that Christians are invited to participate in.<\/p>\n<p>As a teacher, his first main goal is to encourage young believers to become disciples who are similarly committed to Jesus, the church, and that Kingdom mission.<\/p>\n<p>His second main goal is to encourage students to become life-long learners; passionate people who think critically and are strong communicators.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThere are many others you could have easily named,\u201d Esau says of receiving the Distinguished Alumni Award. \u201cIt\u2019s an honour to be recognized for what is, in many ways, a quiet occupation.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Esau and his wife, Karen, have three adult children.
