Embodied: Figures and Faces

The Winnipeg Sketch Club

The Winnipeg Sketch Club was formed in 1914, by watercolourist A.J. Musgrove (1881-1952), first principal of the Winnipeg School of Art and later a curator at the Winnipeg Art Gallery. It remains one of the oldest fine art institutions in Canada and has had many well-known artists as members, including Leo Mol, Franz Johnston, Charles Comfort, and Lemoine Fitzgerald. The club continues its history of broad inclusion with a current membership of amateur and professional artists, from young tyros still in school, to retirees rediscovering their artistic talents, to career creators with works in federal, provincial, and private collections.
