Lamentation and Celebration
Lois Klassen
April 24 - June 20, 2026
Opening Event April 25, 2-4pm
Lois Klassen exjoys exploring juxtaposition and the chaos of a wide variety of materials in her quilts. She pushes the limits of textile art, not only through her visual design, with it's play of light/dark and pattern/texture, but also through her materials choices - combining found, recycled and commercial fabrics - as well as through her conceptual exploration of meanings and emotional responses to her work.
Lamentation and Celebration explores grief and loss in the midst of life's beauty. This series of collaged works employ found needlework fragments, carrying forward the stitches of women working in traditional craft to the galleries of the present, adding a dimension of time and nostalgia to Lois' works.
Lois Klassen is a quilt artist based in Abbotsford, B.C. She was first introduced to the pleasure of quiltmaking during the patchwork quilt renaissance of the 1970's, and has been regularly exhibiting textile art in B.C. galleries since 2011. This is her first exhibition in Manitoba.
