Opening Event April 25, 2-4pm
Through processes of repetition, repair, and transformation, reclaimed Japanese vintage beads are reworked into objects that feel both familiar and unexpected. Once part of other contexts and uses, these materials are gathered and reassembled through a sustained, tactile practice shaped by memory, labour, and care. What begins as reuse becomes an intuitive way of making. The works consider how material histories continue, not as something left behind, but as something carried forward and lived with.
Kae Sasaki (she/her) is a Japanese-born visual artist based on Treaty One Territory in Winnipeg, Manitoba. She holds a BA in German Literature from Rikkyo University in Tokyo and a BFA Honours in Painting from the University of Manitoba.
Her practice spans painting, sculpture, and beadwork, shaped by her Japanese heritage and a deep engagement with the histories materials carry. Sasaki has received support from the Manitoba Arts Council and the Canada Council for the Arts, and her work can be found in private, public, and corporate collections across Canada and the U.S.A.
Kae Sasaki is supported by the Canada Council for the Arts and the Manitoba Arts Council.
