Lecture with Dr. Rachad Antonius | Understanding Gaza in the Light of History

January 23 | MHC Gallery @ 6-7:30 pm, doors open at 5:30 pm

Join us for a free lecture from Dr. Rachad Antonius. Dr. Antonius will argue that the century-long process of dispossession of Palestinians from their land—and the resulting ethnic cleansing—explains the events in Gaza far more than any other factor.

Dr. Antonius is a University of Manitoba alumnus and a retired Full Professor of Sociology at Université du Québec à Montréal (UQAM). A specialist in contemporary Arab societies, Arab and Muslim minorities in Canada, and the Israeli-Palestinian conflict, he has also consulted for the UN, UNICEF, and other international and Canadian agencies. He is the author of La Conquête de la Palestine. De Balfour à Gaza, une guerre de cent ans (Écosociété, 2024).

A 60 minute presentation will be followed by 30 minutes of discussion.

Learn this centuries-old Palestinian tradition in a welcoming and inspiring space!

Join us for a hands-on Palestinian tatreez workshop celebrating a centuries-old embroidery tradition led by a local artist. Come learn, stitch, and connect with Palestinian culture in a welcoming and creative space.

Tatreez is a traditional form of embroidery that reflects regional identity, history, and everyday life. Passed down through generations, it preserves cultural expression and resilience.

There are three standalone sessions, and in each session you can expect to learn about the significance and history of tatreez, basic stitches, and begin your own piece to take home. If you would like to continue working on your piece in community, consider joining us for more than one session.
