Photo Talk with Tim Smith

Presented by the MHC Gallery and The South Winnipeg Photo Club, award-winning photojournalist Tim Smith will discuss his work, "In the World But Not Of It: The Hutterites" with Gallery curator, Sarah Hodges-Kolisnyk. A project some 15-years in the making, this photo exhibition has exhibited world-wide and also appear in the Province of Manitoba's art collection. Smith is a working photojournalist as well as the 2022 Donggang Photo Festival Artist of the Year He's won two National Newspaper Awards and a Judges Special Recognition in the Pictures of the Year International (POYI) Community Awareness Award. 

"In The World But Not Of it" offers a look inside inside the often-misunderstood and cloistered world of Hutterite Colonies. In Smith's words:  "Hutterites are often either romanticized or denigrated as quaint or old fashioned. The reality is that their society is very complex. These photographs capture how colonies navigate the need to respond to the external pressures of the world around them, while holding on to key traditions central to their faith."
