Dear friends,
You'd be amazed to know how many students come to the CMU Centre for Career and Vocation (CCV) with a deep desire to make a difference in the world as they look for direction for their lives and livelihoods. It's a time of both uncertainty and promise for young adults.
As the Director of the CCV, I see how students are called to live out CMU's mission to serve and lead throughout many sectors of church and society but need guidance to transform their wonderings and aspirations into jobs after graduation.
Your support gives us the resources to continually walk alongside students, helping them to discern future directions and assisting them to step boldly into the world of employment.
Take Grace Siemens, a recent student who dreamed of a career that integrated her studies in social sciences but didn't know where to start. Through the workshops and coaching we offer, Grace was able to practice articulating her skills, knowledge, and sense of self in interviews and craft a résumé that told her story. Grace's experiential learning/practicum placement with Canadian Parks and Wilderness Society (CPAWS)—an organization that shares her commitment to community-building and environmental sustainability—has set her on a path to contribute to society in powerful ways. She now has the confidence to demonstrate to employers how her knowledge, skills, and character can make a difference to them—how she can work well with people, handle complex issues, communicate ideas effectively both verbally and in writing, and integrate all dimensions of his intellectual, spiritual, moral, physical, and social self.
From discerning her direction to finding her place in the world of work, Grace's journey is made possible by generosity of others like you.
Every part of the CCV's work is grounded in CMU's longstanding commitment to educate for character (who they are), and the good they can achieve (what they might build). Each dollar you give has a tangible, immediate impact on students' lives:
Your support of CMU and the Centre for Career and Vocation is an investment in a generation of students prepared to live out their commitments to peacebuilding and justice, to radical dialogue and generous hospitality, and to invitational community. Your generosity not only helps students find jobs but to also find meaning in their work, whatever that work entails.
We need your help to equip these young leaders for lives and livelihoods of purpose and integrity.
Your gift to CMU in support of the CCV is a gift that will echo over time into communities, churches, and workplaces where CMU students will make their mark as people of authenticity and action.
With sincere gratitude,
Dr. Christine Kampen Robinson
Director, Centre for Career and Vocation
