Reporting to the Director of Development, the Development Associate will be involved in individual and corporate fundraising (including prospect research and review, visitation and documentation, and cultivation, solicitation and stewardship of groups of people interested in investing in the mission of CMU). In addition this individual will have responsibility for direct mail campaigns, development related communications and development special events planning. In this role, the Development Associate will work closely with the Director of Development, the VP External and the CMU Development team in strategic planning and in implementing a measurable solicitation plan through donor visits and work with other departmental activities.
Responsibilities of the Development Associate:
A. Individual and Corporate Fundraising (30%)
a. Work with the Director of Development in order to visit prospective and current donors, to cultivate relationships with CMU, including Alumni, Parents, Volunteer Leaders and Friends.
i. Participate in gift solicitation and campaign strategies in conjunction with the Director of Development and the VP External.
ii. Foster a supportive and informed culture within the staff, faculty and board of CMU, inviting their input and feedback.
iii. Solicit donors for all gifting options including annual gifts, tribute or memorial gifts, sponsorships, endowments, bursaries, capital and planned gifts.
iv. Develop gifting opportunities for the alumni of Concord, CMBC, MBBC and CMU in conjunction with the Alumni/Constituency Relations Coordinator and the Development team.
B. Development Department Communications and Event Planning (60%)
a. Direct Mail (20%)
i. Develop and take the lead on key Direct Mail campaigns, including the fall and winter appeals, and program specific appeals, eg. MSC and OT appeals
b. Development-related Communications (20%)
i. Coordinate all Development related public communications, in cooperation with the CMU Marketing and Communications dept
c. Special Events (20%)
i. Develop and lead key development events in an effort to maximize their monetary and non-monetary benefits. Plans for special events will be implemented with the assistance of the Development Administrative Coordinator, appropriate volunteers, departmental representatives and others. Examples include:
1. President’s Golf Classic (in cooperation with the Athletics Dept)
2. Fall Dessert Evening
3. Christmas @ CMU
4. Southern Manitoba Celebration Event
5. Celebration Dinner
C. Other duties as required (10%)
a. Research and develop new giving programs and models
b. Develop sponsorship programs for select university programs
c. Other duties as assigned
QUALIFICATIONS:
• Undergraduate degree with familiarity in fund development, business administration, sales & marketing, or project management.
• Familiarity with all aspects of fundraising is required with some planned giving experience preferred.
• Must be familiar with, and have full empathy with CMU and its church constituency, and must be supportive of CMU mission, purposes and programs.
Frequent travel including overnight travel, some meetings may be held outside of normal business hours, evenings and weekends, the incumbent must be available to work varied hours as required. Must have own transportation and be able to travel to various locations throughout Manitoba and Saskatchewan.
