In spring 2000 I convocated with a Ph.D. in English and was hired at the Canadian Mennonite University in Winnipeg, Manitoba. I did my doctoral work in the Department of English at the University of Alberta, focussing on George Herbert, an early seventeenth-century poet.  Between my M. A. and my Ph. D., I worked at Maskwachees Cultural College in the Cree community of Hobbema, Alberta.  I am married to Sally Ito, who writes both fiction and poetry, and we have a nine-year old son, Kenji, and a five-year old daughter, Seika.
