CMU Press Announces Book Launch For New Perspectives In Believers Church Ecclesiology
Featuring essays on church &world relationships & trends in contemporary Christianity

CMU PRESS is pleased to announce its publication of New Perspectives in Believers Church Ecclesiology, a diverse collection of essays that revisits debates about the relationship between church and world, and engages with new trends in contemporary Christianity. The book grew out of a Believers Church conference entitled, “Congregationalism, Denominationalism, and the Body of Christ,” which was hosted by Canadian Mennonite University in 2008.

But what is the Believers Church?

“The term Believers Church has come into use in the past century and a half to designate that church tradition as such, and those denominations and congregations in particular, that baptize Christian believers on the basis of their personal confession of faith and insist on voluntary church membership,” explains editor and Professor Emeritus of theology at Canadian Mennonite University, Helmut Harder.

This family of churches is made up of a wide range of denominations, including Pentecostals, Mennonites, Brethren, and Baptists. A growing number of Anabaptist communities from the Southern Hemisphere also identify with the Believers Church family.

“This publication highlights the continuing importance of a theology of the church in our day,” continues Harder. The book combines essays of biblical scholarship, historical theology and ethics for a well-rounded update on current trends in Believers Church theology and church life.

New Perspectives in Believers Church Ecclesiology will be launched Thursday, February 25, 2010 at 3:30 pm in the Great Hall at Canadian Mennonite University. Refreshments will be provided. All are welcome to attend.

New Perspectives in Believers Church Ecclesiology n(CMU PRESS) is available from the CMU bookstore, cmubookstore@cmu.ca or 204.487.3300. The cost is $29.50.
