About WCMS

WCMS is an inter-Mennonite partnership that facilitates the offering of graduate and professional theological education in Winnipeg, Manitoba.  The primary role of WCMS is to link the church constituency with the resources of various Mennonite educational institutions. At this time, students can gain graduate theological education by seeking admission to the MA Theological Studies offered by the Canadian Mennonite University or the Certificate of Christian Ministry offered through Mennonite Brethren Biblical Seminary (MBBS) of Fresno, CA or Associated Mennonite Biblical Seminary (AMBS) of Elkhart, Indiana. WCMS can also facilitate academic advising and coaching for those who train for vocational ministry. WCMS seeks to provide continued professional education for pastors and pastoral candidates through pastoral round tables, workshops and other special events.

The centre is located on the campus of Canadian Mennonite University, 500 Shaftesbury Blvd, Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada.

The Centre is supported by four institutional partners and five Mennonite conferences:

Associated Mennonite Biblical Seminary (AMBS)

AMBS, located in Elkhart, Indiana, is the primary seminary of Mennonite Church USA and Mennonite Church Canada. The primary goal of the seminary is to help the next generation of pastors and other ministers of the church become immersed in the Scriptures and learn to become effective, faithful leaders serving God throughout the world.

Mennonite Brethren Biblical Seminary (MBBS Canada)

MBBS Canada is a graduate theological school, preparing persons for Christian ministry in the evangelical-Anabaptist tradition. This is achieved through partnership in the consortium of ACTS Seminaries at Trinity Western University and through the Winnipeg Centre for Ministry Studies at Canadian Mennonite University. Our mission is to inspire and equip men and women to live as disciples of Jesus Christ, and to serve and lead in the church and in the world. MBBS was founded in 1955 in Fresno, CA by the US Mennonite Brethren Conference. In 1975 the Canadian Mennonite Brethren Conference became a partner in the school. In 1995, MBBS started the BC Centre in Abbotsford, BC.; in 1999 became "one seminary in three locations" as it became a full member of ACTS Seminaries in Langley and a part of the Winnipeg Centre for Ministry Studies. In 2010, the MBBS Fresno campus was amalgamated into Fresno Pacific University.

The Master of Arts in Theological Studies reflects CMU’s mission “to inspire and equip women and men for lives of service, leadership and reconciliation in church and society.” In particular, this degree provides an opportunity for graduate theological education for women and men who wish to nurture their capacity for theological reflection at the intersection of learning and life.

Steinbach Bible College

SBC provides students with a unique opportunity to discover and develop their potential for ministry in the church and society. Courses are taught from an Evangelical Anabaptist perspective with hands-on mission experience being central to SBC's program. Ultimately, students leave SBC changed. They have a deeper understanding of how the world needs to be reached for Jesus Christ and they have the desire and resources to impact people in their ministries and careers.

The Winnipeg Theological Cooperative

The Winnipeg Theological Cooperative is an association of a number of schools in Winnipeg with the Faculty of Theology at the University of Winnipeg. It was formed in 1988 to enable students to earn a Master of Divinity degree from the University of Winnipeg in an ecumenical setting.

The Cooperative is committed to recognizing the different traditions represented by the associated schools and encouraging students to pursue their ministerial formation in connection with their own tradition. The affiliates of the Cooperative are the Faculty of Theology, Canadian Mennonite University, St. Benedict’s Retreat and Conference Centre, St. John’s College and William and Catherine Booth College. Students are encouraged to declare one of the affiliates as their home institution.

The MDiv program is offered in three academic streams: congregational ministry, pastoral care and counseling, and theological studies. The Faculty of Theology is an associate member of the Association of Theological Schools and courses taken through the Cooperative are fully transferable to other seminary programs.

Five supporting Mennonite conferences in Manitoba are: Chortitzer Mennonite Conference (CMC), Evangelical Mennonite Conference (EMC), Evangelical Mennonite Mission Conference (EMMC), Mennonite Brethren Church of Manitoba (MB), Mennonite Church Manitoba (MCM)
