International Development Studies

What Are Our Grads Doing?

IDS alumni are spread across the world. They work in countries like Guatemala, Mali, Burkina Faso and Cambodia doing community development, advocacy, project management, and more.

Organizations that employ our grads include Mennonite Central Committee, World Renew, Mennonite Disaster Service, Food Matters Manitoba and Canadian Foodgrains Bank, to name a few.

While many students end up in further studies or working overseas, others choose to apply the skills they’ve gained from their IDS degrees to the Canadian offices of international NGOs, and development organizations based in Canada.

Our grads also find work with refugee support organizations, aboriginal communities, and northern and inner-city development organizations.

CMU offers the option and flexibility of combining a major in IDS with a second field such as communications, business, peace and conflict transformation studies, and theology.

This opens up a wide range of career opportunities including communications for non-profits, social enterprise business, and conflict mediation in international contexts.
