2016-17 Event Calendar

October 2122: CMU choirs perform with the Winnipeg Symphony Orchestra 

October 30: Mennonite Community Orchestra – Fall concert with music by Elgar and Vaughn Williams, featuring CMU alumnus Breanna Heinrichs as piano soloist; $15 for adults, $5 for students, 12 and under free (3:00 PM, CMU Chapel, 600 Shaftesbury Blvd.).

November 26: Christmas at CMU – The perfect way to celebrate the start of Advent! Featuring: CMU Choirs, Vocal and Instrumental Jazz, Guitar, and Handbell Ensembles, Music Faculty, Storytelling and Music Making for Kids, Music in the Hallways, Audience Carol Sing, Hallelujah Chorus, and more. (2:00 PM & 7:00 PM, 500 Shaftesbury Blvd.)

November 17: School of Music Open House

November 26: Christmas at CMU – The perfect way to celebrate the start of Advent with family, friends and neighbours while enjoying music, festive decor, cookies, and hot apple cider. 

January 27: Choral Concert – featuring CMU Singers and Mennonite Collegiate Institute Chamber Choir (7:00 PM, MCI's Buhler Hall, 466 Mary St., Gretna, MB)

January 28: Hymn Festival – featuring CMU Singers (7:00 PM, Lakeview Community Church, 616 Lakeview Ave., Killarney, MB)

February 15: Verna Mae Janzen Music Competition

March 9–12: Opera Workshop performs H.M.S. Pinafore – Tickets available at the door: adults $20; students $15 (Thursday–Saturday 7:00 PM; Sunday 2:30 PM, Laudamaus Auditorium, 500 Shaftesbury Blvd.)

March 21Bach on the Bridge – Celebrating Bach’s birthday with musicians around the world, musicians from the CMU community will perform the music of J.S. Bach to uplift, educate, and entertain you as you cross CMU's pedestrian bridge; held in connection with “Bach in the Subways.” (10:00–11:30 AM and 12:00–1:30 PM, Marpeck Commons pedestrian bridge, 2299 Grant Ave.) 

April 2: Bells and Whistles – featuring CMU's Handbell Ensemble and Guitar Ensemble; general admission $5 at the door (7:00 PM Laudamus Auditorium; 500 Shaftesbury Blvd.)

April 4: Jazz at CMU – featuring the CMU Jazz Bandgeneral admission $5 at the door (7:00 PM Great Hall, 500 Shaftesbury Blvd.)

April 9: The Mennonite Community Orchestra's Spring Concert – Featuring conductor William Gordon and performances of Brahms’ Four Serious Songs with CMU voice professor Matthew Pauls, Bach’s Brandenburg Concerto #5 with pianist Madeline Hildebrand, flutist Laurel Ridd and violinist Karen Warner, and Beethoven’s Symphony #6, the “Pastoral Symphony”. Tickets at the door: adults $15, students $5, children 12 and under free. (3:00 PM, CMU Chapel, 600 Shaftesbury Blvd.)

April 22: Spring Choral Concert (7:00 PM, Loewen Athletic Centre, 500 Shaftesbury Blvd.)

 

School of Music student recitals occur every Thursday while class is in session.
