Why Build?

From the Library Director

Vic Froese

A university library opens conversations between the generations about matters that are truly important. CMU excels at this even within present Library facilities located in a basement, with limited natural light and with real space constraints for accommodating student study and collaboration. A new Library and Learning Commons will only help us do more with excellence!

From my many years of experience as a Librarian, I know that even though a Library is more than a building, well-designed surroundings make a real difference to learning.

This new Library and Learning Commons will be a strategic and fully equipped space where students and faculty can give their full attention to learning as they study, collaborate and research together.

Ready access to limitless electronic resources and virtual communities, together with the support of excellent Library staff, will be key to this new centre. We will be able to connect people face-to-face, in person and with technology, here on our campus, across the country and around the globe.
