Tour Details

Preparation

All participants are invited to read a selection of readings prior to departure. A reading list and website resources will be provided for those who register. Students who take the tour as a credit course are expected to do a significant amount of reading in preparation for the tour, and are asked to do several writing assignments.

Physical Fitness

Participants will be expected to be in excellent physical condition. Expect to be on your feet for a good part of the day. There will be a number of fairly strenuous walks. Participation in the tour depends on being able to walk briskly for a good long while.

Recommendation: Prepare for the tour by walking at least an hour a day for three or four weeks prior to departure.

Baggage

Recommended that you take a maximum of one piece of checked luggage. You may occasionally need to carry your own baggage (although porterage is included at the hotels). The official airline rules allow for two pieces of luggage, 50 lbs. each, plus one handbag size suitcase of not more than 7 kg., Cosmetic bags, briefcases, and camera cases remain in the personal care of tour members and are not included in the 50 pounds.

Recommendation: Take as little as possible, and if possible, take drip-dry clothing that you can wash by hand and dry overnight.
