Universities Canada Membership

Universities Canada (UC) is a national association representing Canada's public and private not-for-profit universities and university-degree level colleges. UC provides leadership in the development of public policy on higher education and encourages cooperation among universities, governments, industry, communities, and institutions in other countries. Membership in Universities Canada, combined with the appropriate provincial legislation, is a mark of quality higher education that is well recognized in Canada and abroad.

At present, 96 Canadian universities and colleges are members of Universities Canada.

In Fall 2008, Universities Canada granted CMU full membership. Along with the degree granting charter from the province of Manitoba, this 'gold seal of approval' assures students that their CMU degree will be recognized at other Canadian universities and colleges and facilitates ease of credit transfer between institutions. Universities Canada makes academic transitions into graduate and professional programs increasingly routine for CMU graduates.

Membership in the association requires universities to meet strict criteria and adhere to set principles of institutional quality assurance that must be reaffirmed every five years. This reinforces the recognition of a CMU degree around the world as a high-quality academic achievement.
