Arts and Science

The interdisciplinary Arts and Science major gives students a foundation in both the arts and the sciences, including biology, physics, chemistry, and mathematics. It enables a flexible combination of these with other disciplines in the liberal arts, giving students the opportunity to study science within a broader liberal arts inquiry. The interdisciplinary nature of this program enables students to draw from different areas of study and pursue their diverse interests. This is a flexible program that allows students to pursue their academic and professional goals.

CMU has an academically rigorous program, where the smaller program means students have access to their professors and additional supports to achieve academic success. Small class sizes allow for exemplary teaching and mentoring, where professors know their students' names and interests. Labs are taught by researching professors or lab instructors, and provide a space for every student to gain hands-on experience.

This program aims to train budding scholars and citizens who can interact productively with others in both scientific and humanistic fields.
By situating scientific inquiry within a liberal arts context, CMU offers students the unique advantage of a highly integrative approach to learning.
CMU's Arts and Science grads are well equipped to pursue a wide variety of occupations or continue higher-level post-secondary studies.
