Interdisciplinary Studies

The Interdisciplinary Studies majors allow students to develop and propose their own programs of studies, oriented around particular themes of their individual choosing. These majors invite students to combine CMU's curricular offerings in creative ways. There are three variations, all four-year options, including the possibility of an Honours degree (culminating in a thesis) and a Combined major, which focuses on two main areas of study.

This major works well for self-motivated students who are constantly making connections between various areas of life. Mentorship relationships between professors and students are integral to this major. These relationships enrich the learning environment, and support students in their academic and professional goals.

Interactive classes and experience-based learning through the CMU Practicum program provides hands-on opportunities to apply theoretical knowledge, while developing skills for meaningful employment. Interdisciplinary studies provides students with the space to explore a range of interests in an academically rigorous environment.
