CMU celebrates the Class of 2025: a landmark year in the CMU story
Under the vaulted arched ceilings of the historic Knox United Church in downtown Winnipeg, Canadian Mennonite University (CMU) celebrated its 25th graduating class on April 26, 2025. This landmark year for the university saw 97 graduates receive their diplomas in front of a large gathering of family, friends, CMU faculty, and staff.
With Gratitude: stories from CMU graduates
CMU launched its graduation weekend celebrations with the annual Spring at CMU.
Held the day before the graduation ceremony in the Loewen Athletic Centre, Spring at CMU featured the long-standing tradition of 'With Gratitude', a time for graduating students to reflect on their time at CMU.

Life at CMU is full of unexpected lessons. Some come from professors, others from classmates, and many from late-night lounge chats or spontaneous games of hide and seek in the forest. For CMU students Ella, Jewels, and Adalynne, living and learning on campus has been just as much about personal growth as it has been about academics.
Ella doesn't just participate in student life—she's practically the poster child for it. "How much time do you have?" she joked, before listing off an impressive roster of roles: soccer and futsal player, Indigenous student leader, Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion volunteer, member of the Music Student Association, CMQ, Arts and Entertainment, and the list goes on. Somehow, she does it all and still manages to sound genuinely joyful about it.
Jewels keeps busy too, but with a slightly different flavour. She works as a barista at folio café on CMU's campus and sings in two CMU choirs. Adalynne brings a thoughtful energy to their many contributions. They've volunteered in the student-run Blaurock Café and Meraki Maker Space, performed at coffeehouses, and played in the Mennonite Community Orchestra. "It's been a really nice experience," they said simply, the kind of understatement that hints at something richer beneath the surface.

Join us for an enlightening evening of Conflict Transformation Through Dialogue and Narrative, an event designed to foster understanding and empathy through the power of storytelling and shared experiences. This event will be co-facilitated by two distinguished peacebuilders, Izzeddin Hawamda and Karen Ridd, who bring a wealth of knowledge and experience in peace and conflict studies.
This event is open to anyone interested in conflict resolution, peacebuilding, and social justice. It is particularly suited for:
- Community leaders and activists
- Educators and students
- Professionals in conflict resolution and mediation
- Individuals passionate about storytelling and creative expression
- Anyone seeking to engage in meaningful dialogue and foster understanding across diverse perspectives

Facilitators:
- Izzeddin Hawamda: Born in a rural village near Nablus, Palestine, Izzeddin has lived in Canada for over 15 years. Izzeddin is the founder of Sadaa an organization that promotes stories of marginalized and underrepresented voices. He holds a PhD in Peace and Conflict Studies from the University of Manitoba, focusing on interfaith dialogue. Izzeddin is passionate about creating opportunities for dialogue through storytelling and is actively involved in various organizations promoting rights and liberties, resilience, and diversity.
- Karen Ridd: With a career spanning over three decades, Karen is a mediator, facilitator, and educator with extensive experience in conflict resolution and human rights. She has worked in war zones in Central America and has been recognized with numerous awards for her contributions to peace and justice. Karen is also an associate of Training for Change and Mediation Services, and a member of several dialogue and social justice initiatives.
