A Message from President Cheryl Pauls
The phrase, CMU25 in 2025, has a ring. And with joy we honour the 25-year story of a remarkable learning community and thousands of alumni whose lives call us forward.
Yet the 25-year account is only part of the picture, for CMU is entrusted with gifts and vision that see in far grander spans.
- CMU lives and learns on lands and waters cherished and stewarded since ancient times by Anishinaabe, Cree, and Dakota First Nations and the homeland of the Red River Métis Nation. We are grateful for the generous provisions of Treaty 1 as covenanted before Creator in 1871, and we call one another to the justice and the joy of living, all of us, as treaty people.
- CMU was made from colleges founded some 80 years ago by Mennonite churches and communities throughout Canada. These in turn drew on educational ventures with 100- and 150-year stories in this land and so too from peoples in the Anabaptist faith tradition that reaches the 500-year milestone this year and in which CMU continues to be nourished.
- CMU exists by means of The Canadian Mennonite University Act (1998, 2022), with purposes including, "to further the intellectual, spiritual, moral, physical, and social development of, and a community spirit among, its students, graduates, and staff for the betterment of society."
We look forward to sharing far-seeing stories with you this year. Watch this space for accounts of alumni from each graduating class.
Mark your calendar for an extra-special Fall at CMU as we celebrate
CMU’s 25th anniversary on September 19 and 20, 2025.
