Born and raised on Treaty 1 Territory, Chenene entered the field of spiritual care after starting an MDiv “for fun”, as her end goal was to become a counselor or clinical psychologist. Not wanting to enter the professions of either parent (father—pastor, mother—nurse), Chenene has somehow found her way doing a combination of both as a Spiritual Care Practitioner in healthcare.
Chenene is a Certified Spiritual Care Supervisor-Educator with the Canadian Association for Spiritual Care (CASC/ACSS). She holds a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology and a Master of Arts in Religion with a focus in Pastoral Counseling (after making a slight detour in her degree). She works as the Coordinator of Spiritual Care Education at St. Boniface Hospital, teaching the Clinical Psychospiritual Education program as well as creating and participating in educational opportunities for staff and community. She is passionate about working with people to cultivate wellness and overall spiritual health. Her interests include mental health, restorative justice, dementia care and grief, loss, and bereavement.
Some of Chenene’s extracurricular and professional activities have included sitting on and subsequently chairing the board for Initiatives for Just Communities. She served two terms as Regional Admitting Chair for CASC MB and is currently serving her first term as Chair. She has also served two terms as Chair for the WRHA Spiritual Health Services Clinical Practice Committee (now known as the Winnipeg Spiritual Health Services Practice Council) and co-chaired the Professional Education and Training Provincial Working Group that addressed the education arm of the MB Strategic Plan for Spiritual Health (Health and the Human Spirit).
An active member of her church, Chenene has various responsibilities and roles (as many pastor’s kids do) related to the functioning of the church and the facilitation of the worship experience for the congregation.
In her spare time (what’s that?), she’s a serial hobbyist—enjoying creative activities such as playing piano, knitting, crocheting, papercrafting, photography, and writing.
