Wenyu is originally from a small town near Shanghai, China, and he completed his BSc (Hons) in Chemistry at the University of Alberta in Edmonton, AB. During his undergraduate studies, he performed research in Pd- and Cu-catalyzed decarboxylative cross-coupling reactions under the supervision of Prof. Rylan Lundgren. He finished his MSc with Prof. Jean-Philip Lumb at McGill University in Montreal, QC, with a focus on methodology development involving aryl azocarboxylate motifs. Starting from September 2023, he has taught chemistry at both Champlain College St-Lambert and John Abbott College, as well as high-school math and physics at Faith-Christian Academy in Quebec.

In July 2025, he joined CMU as a Teaching Lecturer and Lab Steward.
