Injury, care of faculty leads to fulfilling change in career direction

Kim Wiens was an accomplished pianist and clarinettist studying music performance at Canadian Mennonite Bible College when a terrible injury forced her to re-evaluate her future.
During the summer between her first and second year at CMBC, one of CMU’s predecessor colleges, Wiens worked as a counsellor at Camp Valaqua in Water Valley, AB. She was moving a ping-pong table with its sides up. One of the sides came crashing down, crushing her hand.

When the Dalai Lama and Archbishop Desmond Tutu get together, they greet each other by tickling one another. Paul Peters settled for a handshake.
Peters, a program manager with Canadian Mennonite University’s Outtatown Discipleship School, met with Tutu in his Cape Town office this past January.

Students put their studies on hold for a variety of reasons, but Scott Gillingham’s reason is unique: he was elected to Winnipeg’s city council.
Gillingham, a student in Canadian Mennonite University’s (CMU) Graduate School of Theology and Ministry (GSTM), was declared the winner in the St. James-Brooklands ward when polls closed in Winnipeg’s civic election on Wednesday, October 22.

Hutterites in southern Manitoba honoured a Canadian Mennonite University professor last month for his contribution to their community.
The Hutterian Brethren Education Committee recognized Dr. John J. Friesen, Professor Emeritus of History and Theology, for his work teaching church and Hutterite history courses. Between 2000 and 2014, Friesen taught a number of courses to several hundred Hutterite teachers, pastors, and young people from across southern Manitoba, South Dakota, and Minnesota.
