Why are some countries more developed than others? What structures or systems are in place that facilitate or hinder a country’s development?
Questions like these prompted Aminata Kane to pursue International Development Studies (IDS) at MSC.

Dr. George Richert was President of Menno Simons College from 1992-2001, and one of CMU’s three founding presidents in 2000. He passed away on April 6, 2016.
George held a Ph.D. In Educational Administration from the University of Alberta and had a very significant career as an educator and educational administrator. His teaching began in a one-room rural school in Saskatchewan, and included an 11–year span as Professor at the University of Regina as well as several years in Nigeria.

Completing her practicum at SEED Winnipeg provided Sara Froese (MSC 2014-15) with an opportunity to witness community-led development firsthand.
Froese, who has taken International Development Studies (IDS) courses at MSC, says SEED’s relational approach to business development resonated with her.

From how the media frames modern day conflicts in the news to how we relate to each other on a daily basis, communication plays an integral role in conflicts and their resolution.
Students in Conflict Resolution Studies at Menno Simons College (MSC) learn about different communication techniques in a first-year introductory course and later have an opportunity to refine their communication skills in the course Conflict and Communication.

Taking an introductory course “just for fun” in the early 1990s led Ruth Taronno (MSC ’99, IDS 3–year), Practicum Director at MSC, down a career path she didn’t expect.
“I was working part-time with Project Peacemakers, but I wanted to do something a little bit more for myself, so I thought I would take a course in the evenings,” Taronno says.
