Faculty Positions in Social Work

Canadian Mennonite University (CMU) invites applications from candidates for two (2) open-rank, tenure-track or tenured, professorial positions in social work.

Through these two positions we seek to address the following priorities:

  • An Indigenous (to Turtle Island) scholar of social work
  • A scholar able to act as field director (holding at least a Master’s of Social Work; registered or eligible for registration with the Manitoba College of Social Workers)
  • A scholar engaged with Indigenous-led organizations or community-building work overlapping with or comprising an alternative to social work

Scholars who see their work, identity, or experience relating to any of the above priorities are encouraged to apply. Applicants who hold or are near completion of a PhD (or an alternate terminal degree) in social work, or a close-cognate field (with at least one social work degree), are preferred; applicants holding an MSW or a master’s in a close-cognate field (with at least one social work degree) will also be considered.

The successful candidates will join CMU’s social work and our broader faculty, together building and delivering CMU’s exciting new social work program—an exceptional opportunity for creative and engaged teacher-scholars. The successful candidates will have a demonstrated commitment to excellence in teaching.

Candidates are expected to be active researchers. Scholarly expertise in some of the following areas is preferred: Social Policy, Indigenous Social Work Practice, Child Welfare, Adult/Youth Justice, Women’s Issues, Clinical Practice both in theory and methods of intervention, and Field Education.

At least one of the two candidates will act as the program’s field director. The Field Director maintains and develops field related policies and procedures according to the Canadian Association of Social Work Education (CASWE) standards. The Field Director also recruits, maintains, and develops partnerships with appropriate field placement sites for CMU social work students—so, experience of and relationships within the provincial context of social work field education will be viewed as beneficial.
