Stefan Epp-Koop: Working toward healthy, sustainable food for all

Most of us don’t think twice about the food we eat, but Stefan Epp-Koop (CMU 2002-04) does.
As the acting executive director of Food Matters Manitoba, it’s Epp-Koop’s job to help make Manitoba a healthier place by building healthy, fair, and sustainable food systems that make food available and affordable to all.

Most people wait until after graduation to give back to their alma mater, but not Moses Falco. While he was still a student, Falco and his wife, Jessica, bought a tile in support of the Connect Campaign to fund the construction of Marpeck Commons.
“Giving is part of what we think it means to be faithful followers of Jesus,” says Falco, who will graduate next month with a Bachelor of Arts in Communications and Media.

When he visited CMU last September to accept a 2015 Blazer Distinguished Alumni Award, Larry Plenert (CMBC ’78) remarked how one of his professors inspired him to become a lawyer.
One of Plenert’s classmates asked Dr. David ‘Doc’ Schroeder, Professor of New Testament and Philosophy, if it was appropriate for Mennonites to be lawyers.

When Sarah Quartel and Damaris Schmucker decided to start a community choir, they hoped at least 10 people would join. Imagine their surprise when nearly 40 people registered.
“We were pretty elated,” Quartel says. “The response from the community has been so amazing and positive.”

It’s difficult to overstate the contribution Michael P. Falk has made to Winnipeg’s music scene.
Over the past 15 years, Falk (nee Petkau, CMBC 1997-99) has carved out an impressive career as a recording engineer, working with some of the city’s best-known bands including Moses Mayes and Mahogany Frog.
