Tiffany Carther-Krone: From the swimming pool to a PhD

How does an aspiring music teacher end up doing a PhD in neuroscience? CMU’s meal plan is part of the answer.
When she moved on campus to study at CMU, Tiffany Carther-Krone (nee Lazar, OT ’04, CMU ‘08) enjoyed eating in the university’s dining hall. In an effort to combat the “Freshman 15,” Carther-Krone started swimming at a local pool when she wasn’t taking music classes.

What would it look like to retell a handful of biblical stories in a modern day context?
That’s the question that sparked Kid Shorts, a series of five videos from filmmaker and CMU alumnus Paul Plett (2004-05).
“I had this idea that you could take a look at scripture and you could envision it in a new way,” Plett says. “You could breathe some life into it by setting it in a modern day context, and you could do that through the perspective of a child.”

Since purchasing Lights Unlimited three years ago, lifelong friends Mike Friesen (CMU ’10) and Terrell Froese (CMU 2005-06) have grown the business from a humble residential Christmas lights installation company to one that also designs and creates exciting light displays in public spaces throughout Winnipeg.
If you’ve walked over the old railway bridge at the Forks, strolled through the park behind Millennium Library, or sauntered through West Broadway, you’ve seen their work.

Today is Giving Tuesday, a day when charities, companies, and individuals join together to share commitments, rally for favourable causes, and think about others.
