Video: Learning From the Field | Public Lecture with Jane Rabinowicz
MSC welcomed Jane Rabinowicz, Executive Director of USC Canada, in a public lecture entitled, "Learning from the field: Farmer-led solutions for food sovereignty, climate resilience and sustainability of small scale agriculture."
In 2016, Rabinowicz was named to the Global and Mail's 53 most influential people in Canadian food for her work in seed security in Canada. And in 2017, she was profiled by CBC as part of a six-part documentary series called "WE ARE CANADA," that celebrates the next generation of passionate Canadian changemakers.
Video: Refugee Resettlement in Canada: Moving Forward from Lessons of the Past
Seven refugee resettlement experts with experience in Canada's past and present programs gathered for a panel discussion examining the past, present, and future of Canada's refugee resettlement efforts.
"Canada has a long history of resettling refugees," says Dr. Stephanie Stobbe, Associate Professor of Conflict Resolution Studies at Menno Simons College, who moderated the panel. "Today there are 17.2 million refugees under UNHCR's mandate, and over 1 million refugees are in need of resettlement. We want to explore what the future of Canada's resettlement program might look like."

Jaimie Sanderson sits near the back of the class, her notes in front of her and her two-week-old child, River, in the baby carrier on the floor to her right.
Sanderson has a month of classes left, but pregnancy and giving birth mid-semester have not stopped this student from achieving her goal of earning a degree in Indigenous Studies Honours and Conflict Resolution Studies.
Preparing for Uncertain Futures: Careers that Fight Climate Change Network
Climate change is more a cultural problem than an environmental one. As a professor in Conflict Resolution Studies at MSC, one area I specialize in involves analyzing emerging patterns of climate-conflict and developing culturally adaptive interventions to address the preconditions of conflict related to ecological pressures. This year, we launched the Careers that Fight Climate Change Network (CFCCN), an experiential learning and mentorship program designed to promote collaborative relationships and interactive learning among 24 Indigenous and newcomer youth from two inner-city Winnipeg Schools.
